D6 hit points for wizards?

D6 hit points for wizards?

This outrage will not stand.

  1. It was a d6 in the playtest as well.

They don't call it Clerics of the Coast, you know!

  2. BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN WITH THEIR LOW HIT POINT WIZARDY MORTALITY RISK!

  3. Those of us who play OD&D are comfortable with this already.

  6. A recent thread on the old Conan d20 game reminded me of something I really liked about that game. Every person has a level and a class...3rd level commoner, 1st level scholar, etc. Those classes gave them the skills they needed to do their job but their "combat" utility was minimal.

Commoners rolled d4s for HP so a 3rd level commoner averaged 7-8, HPs. Soldiers (Fighters) rolled d10 but started with max at 1st level...so at first level a Soldier had more HPs than a commoner.

It occurs to me that maybe the upside of making Wizards d6 in D&D5 is that it leaves room for the regular schmoes to use d4s.

  7. I know people tend to freak out about name lists, but really, I don't see the fuss -- I happen to think they're OK (as long as they're not like "you must choose one of these names!")

  12. There is no single thing that a game designer or GM can do to set the tone and inspire imagery for a campaign as simple as providing a name list.
