More I Was There Too podcast listening. Right before Johnny Roastbeef (his real nickname) did this scene, he met DeNiro for the first time. 
He says real sheepishly, “Listen, Bobby, I gotta tell ya something.”
“What is it?” DeNiro leans in close to listen. Johnny's got him right where he wants him.
“Only because this is a movie am I letting you yell at me. We both know who the real tough guy is here.”
DeNiro pauses, looks at Johnny Roastbeef for a second, then bursts out laughing, “Hahaha! Marty! This guy got me good!”
