From Voyageurs National Park on FB: Called “Catamaran” by locals, Bert Upton is among the strangest of historical characters on area waters. He lived in a hut built over a dug-out at Squirrel Narrows. Found frozen to death in the 1930s by Kettle Falls pioneer Oliver Knox; Upton was perched lifeless in the snow just a half-mile from his home. Shunning civilization, Upton defined the word hermit. First spotted rowing his crude log raft on Namakan, no one knows how he got there. Upton’s accent implied an English heritage but any personal inquiries brought a stony silence. Some suspected him a man fleeing the law; others saw a bizarre outcast; everyone knew he was peculiar. Just five feet tall and wildly unkempt, Catamaran wore hacked-off pants and walked barefoot with a stick. Winter demanded shoes but no socks, a cast-off Mackinaw, and a trailing cap made from the leg of old underwear. He was oddly religious, and suspicious of being poisoned. Surviving on snared rabbits and fish, he ofte...
Not I. (I'm really just subbing in case someone answers for real...)
ReplyDeleteJohn Till, Jay Exonauts, any idea? You guys hang out at the Source.
ReplyDeleteDon't know, but I'm going to try to be there that day for my goodie bag.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Previous LotFP stuff was given by request from that back counter in the gaming table area.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's John Till!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to see if I can make it.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed I!
ReplyDeleteOooooh.
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like we'll be busy Saturday night so I'll miss the Slug Fest. I'll get in one of John Till's games someday! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo it looks like you have to play in games to get loot? If I show up for a 6:00 game will they have given all the stuff away? Do I need to beat down the doors and play Star Trek?
ReplyDeleteLarry Lade that's a good question. Last year, they gave away everything to anyone who stopped in. I ran a game last year and they didn't set aside anything for the GMs. You had to leave your table and stand in line like everyone else -- which I wasn't willing to do.
ReplyDeleteSo I think they're trying to do better by saying you get stuff for participating.
Could someone who goes early post whether you actually need to play in a game or not? I don't have time for that and I won't bother making the trip in that case, which is too bad because I was going to spend some cash.
ReplyDeleteCasey G. if you are not a GM, there are two ways to get things: play a game OR sign up for a drawing. Nothing requires that you pay.
ReplyDeleteAre they 2 hour slots or do they overlap? I'll show up early if I can be free for a 6:00 game. :)
ReplyDeleteFYI, the LotFP adventure can't go in the grab book because mature content, so it is free for the asking.
ReplyDelete2 slots left on Slug Fest
Circle back and ask for another one! I'm certain you know someone who'd be happy to take it. :-)
