How did I not know that director Shane Black was Hawkins from Predator?
I really liked The Nice Guys. Had everything his movies should have, snappy dialogue, a mismatched pair of protagonists, a too-clever kid, off-hand violence, and entertaining henchmen. He mostly makes the same movie, but I like that movie.
He also wrote The Last Action Hero though? Brutal.
Another fun fact for you: Joel Silver supposedly got his boy Shane Black (who wrote Lethal Weapon) cast in Predator to "keep an eye on" John McTiernan, who was an unproven commodity at the time. Silver later stole Black's original title for his The Last Boy Scout script -- Die Hard -- and gave it to McTiernan.

Paul V. I noticed Silver was a producer on The Nice Guys. Everyone must have been buddies for a while since McTeirnan directed Last Action Hero. And IMDB also credits Black as an extra in The Hunt for Red October (McTeirnan’s best movie, IMO.)

Shane Black is now working on a script for a new Predator movie. He might also be directing it. And yes the Nice Guys was fantastic.

ReplyDeleteDerek Pennycuff the "psycho eyed" thug Bruce kills is Kim Coates, he has a fairly major role in the Sons of Anarchy series - which is a bit hit-and-miss in overall quality - but he's excellent in it
