The proper tone is more Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. And they are for sure shooting for a young audience here. The kid is supposed to be like 10, and he gets to the Gunslinger's world by getting killed. Then a bunch of other bad shit happens and there's no fight at the end.
I don't think I'm remembering wrong that Roland's pistols should be like army .44s that do not have flip out cylinders. There are constant references to "working the cylinders" while reloading which means rotating them and inserting one bullet at a time. So this gun-fu shit is terrible.
Originally shared by Curt Thompson This is an interesting theory, but I notice the author has to omit one of the most important Heinlein novels to make it work. Time Enough For Love was written in the very early 70s and was a straight (heh) extrapolation of the chaotic and frenetic zeitgeist of that era. http://www.locusmag.com/Perspectives/2012/11/the-joke-is-on-us-the-two-careers-of-robert-a-heinlein/

Originally shared by Andrew “Incomitatum” Chason Hit Me with your Horror I am looking for some horror flicks. The newer the better. Good is good too. I liked House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects . I liked both the new Texas Chainsaw movies. Hills Have Eyes 1 was good (never saw the second . Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 come to mind as well. A little camp, and/or "back woods" can't hurt. Any of you have any recommendations? Lets try and not go too far back than mid 90's. Aside: How was the new "Freddy" movie? Suggested So Far • Bones (2001) • Drag Me to Hell (2009) • The Grudge (2004) • Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) • Dog Soldiers (2002) • The Decent (2005) • Creature (2011) • The Last Winter (2006)
Hot or cold?
ReplyDeleteHot garbage, but is cold garbage much better? Less smelly I suppose.
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredibly generic to me.
ReplyDeleteI've never read the books.
It shouldn't look like the Avengers with a cowboy, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteLooking at my feed, I'm in the minority.
ReplyDeleteI've seen other people say it looks crappy. It just looks like a typical YA movie to me, which I'm assuming is not the proper tone.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I never read the book so I have zero frame of reference. To me it looks cool, but I've got no skin in the game, so...

ReplyDeleteFull disclosure: I couldn't finish the series. Got way too author wanky. But the original book is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYeah man the first thing I saw of it was a gif of Idris Elba slomo flipping bullets into a gun and I was like "aauugghhh."

ReplyDeleteHATERS!
ReplyDeleteThis looks way too actiony but I really love Idris Elba so I'm torn. I have nothing known about the books.
ReplyDeleteThis movie looks super rad and I will watch the hell out of it. The gun stuff is cool and completely in character.
