Holy shit this would have been a classic.

But the most interesting project in development during this time was an original script called SHADOW COMPANY, about a Vietnam vet who is pitted against six resurrected soldiers from his past. The ambitious film would have given John Carpenter a chance to work with fellow genre-movie icons Walter Hill (as producer), Shane Black (writer) and Fred Dekker (writer).

I knew that but it is freakin awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would watch the hell out of that movie.
ReplyDeleteOrrin Grey wrote this article which prompted me snuggling down with all three recently. BTW if you haven't already checked him out Orrin is not only a really nice cat but also writes strong horror fiction himself.

also the writing team behind night of the creeps (my favorite brain slug movie, even better than slither) and monster squad. there's a scene in one of the house movies (story by dekker, script by others) involving a zombie vet from the main character's past. house is dekker's earliest writing credit on IMDB so i assume this proposed project with carpenter was sometime after that.
ReplyDeletealso i've been slowly making my way through all the carpenter stuff, starting around halloween last year. i've made it to they live so far. maybe i'll make it to the ward by the end of the year.
Night of the Creeps is my favorite zombie movie by far.
ReplyDelete“Thrill me.”
i also watched black moon rising within the past year 'cos it was on someone's list of suggested cyberpunk movies. i didn't realize it has a (somewhat weak) carpenter connection. cool.
ReplyDelete"Here hold this, you'll feel better." Fantastic scene from Night of the Creeps. https://plus.google.com/photos/...
