I played Broadsword at Gen Con last year, and if an updated and expanded Hero Quest-ish experience is something you'd enjoy, you should give this a look.

I backed it.

  1. After watching that Heroquest video, I can't see this without thinking "Brode sode".

  3. Thanks, Casey G., I took a look. I respect what Alex is doing but I've kind of moved on. I transferred the images for Heroquest into Roll20 to play for myself personally, but never got around to it. I have a copy of Heroquest that I picked up a few years ago that I have played with my brother and nephew. Alex looks like he is taking the necessary steps to modernize it a little by giving you some slightly more choices than original Heroquest had for your action, while limiting it from a full paper-pencil RPG.

The bottom line for me though is that this doesn't scratch the itch. I've grown up and I don't really have the need for something this tactical AND this light. I have all the D&D adventure system games that I'll use when my kids are a little older and ready which I think took the next step from Heroquest. Also I've now played Gloomhaven which is a much more interesting tactical puzzle of a game (if you can get past the immense box and contents).

Best of luck to Alex with this project though.

  5. It's always a source of such immense joy when I see someone new come into the fold and link to that video, not knowing how intricately the two have been intertwined.
