Just a joke, Paul. This is for sure a response to the resurgent popularity of D&D brand D&D. Pathfinder had a large market share during the 4e days. Must have shrunk.
pathfinder can only improve, just like 4e could only improve. 3e was 18 years ago.
as a person that plays pathfinder I really hope that the new edition streamlines this somewhat. I'm pretty sure that at least 10-15 minutes per session is spent trying to interpret a rule, of which there are many, and of which even more are ignored.
My first reaction was "hey they're copying 5e!" but some of the action stuff that they're doing could be interesting? E6 is awesome though Bryan Mullins, hits the sweet spot for those kind of mathy build games and actually being able to play them.
The Pathfinder 2.0 story was the last thing I saw before leaving Facebook and so many reactions amounted to "why does Paizo have to be a business and make money though? That's not fair to me!"
Random idea for high-lethality D&D campaigns: Character death unlocks new classes and races. Maybe useful in “special snowflake” campaigns where no one reads your carefully crafted setting material. Instead you roll it out piecemeal as PCs bite the dust. “I really want to play a saurian warlock…sure, I’ll take a drink of that mystery potion.” Someone probably thought of this before.
Hey, I'm using Jeff and Brendan's 20 questions to help me get a feel for my upcoming Perdition campaign. Never done it before. Highly recommended. http://jrients.blogspot.com/2011/04/twenty-quick-questions-for-your.html http://www.necropraxis.com/2012/02/24/20-quick-questions-rules/
First I heard of this. I actually like things about Pathfinder, just not the game itself. Maybe that'll change.
ReplyDeleteSomehow someone will posit that this is proof that the OSR "won"
ReplyDeleteThere's already been skirmishes with the Starfinder faction. Pathfinder purists HATE any kind of streamlining!
ReplyDeleteLaser shots fired!
ReplyDeleteI miss the simple days when we frolicked in green fields with only 48 character classes and 52 races

ReplyDeletesomeone tell me about starfinder's grappling rules
ReplyDeleteBryan Mullins I had no idea the PSR had already started! Now we need old-school Adventure Paths like they had in the early 2000's.
ReplyDeleteOSR vs Pathfinder? Aren't we actually looking at a Pathfinder offensive vs D&D5e?

ReplyDeleteOops. Sorry for being dense. :/

ReplyDeleteI'm still giggling at "Pathfinder purists," Jay Exonauts.
ReplyDeleteGood god... imagine the horror of owning the complete library of all 637 Pathfinder books, only to witness the rise of Pathfinder 2nd Ed.

ReplyDeleteFucking nerds, nothing changes
This was a pretty good overview of P2, as it exists today.

Mike Overbo Oh, it could get much worse. D&D4 was terrible to me.
ReplyDeleteMay the odds be ever in your favor.
ReplyDeleteJason Bell, I'm reasonably certain that the state of tabletop RPGs will never get worse than the 4e period. I hope those days are behind you.
ReplyDeleteNow we have so many choices, besides the always-present "don't upgrade"
All my dreams have come true.
