Does anyone use Obsidian Portal?

Does anyone use Obsidian Portal? I've got a couple campaigns going and I'd like to keep better track of them than I usually do. Is $40 a year worth it or is using something like Google Sites easier? Not doing a Yahoo group. Bleh.

  1. I like Obsidian Portal and $5 a month isn't much to use it, if you do.

Give me a few minutes to get to a proper computer and I'll add links to a couple of my favorite campaign pages.

    Okay, here we go:

    My homebrew D&D game:

    A cool Dresden Files campaign:

    A slick Shadowrun campaign:

If you have questions about using G+ pages, Stacy Dellorfano's making good use of them for Steam & Crumpets

  2. I've just started poking around on Obsidian Portal... and it has some good features, but I much prefer using my own wiki and being able to style it with CSS and not have to pay...

  3. I've used it a little bit, and its pretty handy.  Its certainly better than cobbling together a site to handle all the function for you.  Even the free version is pretty good.

Google sites really only has the advantage that you can upload files easier.  I'd go with obsidian portal personally as its designed for RPG campaigns.  I'd consider moving to it (now that I know it exists) except that there's way too much crap to lug over.

  4. Your wiki is fine, Q. What we do works. Which reminds me that I still need to upload the last chat transcript for Deadlands.

  5. Sure it all works, but that doesn't mean its easy to get running or maintain.  Not to mention there is still a cost for server space with it.  Having some place take care of all that for you cheaply is pretty handy.  Just saying that obsidian portal is a better option than rolling your own.

  6. Wikidot.com is free. It doesn't have character sheets, but you can use orokos.com for that if you're playing D&D 4e and have access to DDI or the old character builder. There's also Mythweavers if you don't. I tried entering my character information on Obsidian Portal the other day and it's a pain in the ass.

  7. http://heavens-gate.wikidot.com is my campaign setting, though I'm currently revising it from the ground up.
