This is what I'm afraid of.

This is what I'm afraid of.

It sounds like the ultra fast frame rate gives the same effect as watching an older movie on blu-ray. When I watched The Princess Bride in HD on blu-ray I was struck by how (much more) fake everything looked. Same with The Sound of Music. Sets that once looked real now looked like...sets. And they look like they were shot on videotape instead of film.

Also, it sounds like Pete still hasn't found an editor to put him in his place. Just under 3 hours? And two movies to go? For a book that's only 200 some odd pages?

  1. The effect blu-ray has on older movies is interesting. I agree in some instances certain older movies look, well, older. But I have Forbidden Planet and the Wizard of Oz on blu-ray and those movies, I believe, are greatly enhanced by the transfer.

And yeah, this, at the most, should be two 2 hour movies.

  2. I wonder is Bilbo and Gollum discover the magic of a frozen lake and slide around on it for 15 minutes...

  3. I'll see it at least twice no matter what Timm Henson. Once with my wife next Monday at a theater that doesn't do 3D, and then I'll try to get to one of the fancy 3D high frame rate shows. But I wouldn't be a nerd if I didn't complain.

  4. I'm a little concerned that they're closer to 3 hours rather than 2, but I'm pretty ok with this. I'll just do what I normally do and avoid the 3D screening.

  5. I'm quite looking forward to The Battle of the Five Armies personally.

  6. Don't criticise Peter, he is a National treasure - not to mention a major earner of foreign currency - even the US Peso...
