3:16 Carnage Amongst the Stars

3:16 Carnage Amongst the Stars
Planet Degas After Action Report

Our first session of 3:16 on Roll20 went really well. We did character creation and started but didn't quite finish the first planet, Degas.
Roll Call!
Sgt. Quantum - more brains than brawn. Didn't stop her from popping six dinosaurs at a time with her sidearm.
Cpl. Jackson - dumb as a box of rocks. Grenade happy. Never actually got to stay at Near range and unload with the E-cannon. He did chop down a tree with it though.
Trooper Kilroy - 22 kills so far this mission. That tells you all you need to know.
Trooper Steel - 4 kills. Two of those were in close combat though, so it wasn't for lack of trying. They were in close a lot.

We hit almost all the high points of the game I think. They killed dinosaur aliens, got into describing how they do things and how the action happens. Best line of the night after Cpl. Jackson blew up some aliens in close combat with his grenades, but Sgt. Quantum had failed her FA check and so took a kill, I asked, "So what happened Sarge?" "I got blown up by a fucking grenade! That's what!"

We had some moral quandaries as well. They came across some peaceful looking herbivorous triceratops aliens, but their orders were to kill all survivors of the initial bombardment, so they attacked.

Quantum ended up using a strength to save herself. She remembered her computer hacking from her youth and used her wrist computer to call in an insanely precise round of air support that killed the remaining aliens.

Now they're in a dropship chasing after a dino-alien ship that might be carrying the alien leader, a giant T-Rex!

As for game mechanics, I was having a hard time grokking how to describe them until I realized that it's The Price is Right. Highest roll without going over. Then it was easy.

And Roll20 works well for this kind of game just fine. You can see the macros were handy to instantly see who had successes or not. Also nice for handouts and making the range chart look super cool with sweet tokens.

  1. The order that things were supposed to happen was tough to keep track of. Having to refer to the chat and sort them in your head each time was cumbersome. A simple set of smaller images of each character tha you can sort to show order would be easy and help full. Since you're not really using the whole map screen anyway. Other than that one small thing it was fantastic.

  2. That's not a bad idea. I think we can do that in the turn tracker. But that might take longer than just putting names on the side and rearranging them.

  3. Stephen Moeller James LaManna if you guys pick up the book, I may demand some co-GMing so I can play. This game lends itself to taking turns GMing planets.

Trooper Poindexter might need to be promoted from NPC to PC!
