My ACKS campaign's first +2 weapon will probably be found next session if the players aren't morons.

My ACKS campaign's first +2 weapon will probably be found next session if the players aren't morons.

It's a +2 longsword, formerly belonging to the castellan of a border keep. I'm looking to juice it just a touch to give it a bit of personality, so I'm looking for a name and a small ability related to defense or something similar.

  1. That is one of the things that I try hard to do in my campaign (and need to go back over once in a while) is Magic Item Histories for everything the players find, or don't find. Always like it when there is a good back story even if the character's might know know it all.

Then again now with their new bard I better be sure to double check that!

  2. Here's somethign:
Arav'len - Longsword +2; Ancient Human Sword, Guarding (+2 Initiative ). The sword is clearly Elvish in design, yet it's history shows this has been used primarily in the hands of humans. However, to the wielder - right before danger is upon him a harsh Elven word echoes in his ears "Dah'quin!" --- if the user looks it up; it means 'Danger' in Ancient Elven. It's purpose remains unclear; one thing is for sure; it wants it's user to survive.

  3. I'm hosed on coffee, so pardon the redundancy in it's description >.<

  4. Robert Anstett I've been doing short paragraph descriptions of magic items and just telling them once they figure out if something is magic or not. We're playing on Roll20, so it's nice to see their attack macro go by with "Orcnail, 4+" as the description instead of "+1 warhammer, 4+."

  5. If it's a sword of a Border keep castellan, give the sword the ability to hold portals, like the wizard's spell.

  6. Ever watchful - Allows the user to cast a Wizard Eye spell to scout out the defenses.  If the user can already use arcane spells, doubles the range. If cast from within the keep, it adds another multiplier. As a personal defense, it can call forth duplicates of the wielder, as per Mirror Image.

  7. This is what I tend to give out for the Magic Item info:

    Miscibil - +2 Cutlass
This cutlass has changed hands several times over the last three decades. It was created by the Pirate Mage Loprin who haunted the pirate isles of the Rumbling River for his captain Viltorg the Invincible in the year 1229 TGR. 5 years later Viltorg died in a battle with Captain Rolm from the Dryads Lair navy who took the cutlass as a prize. When Captain Rolm died he left the cutlass to the Kayugan church who assigned it to several adventuring priests over the years. Eventually it ended up in the treasury of the Kayugan temple in Rivers Bend. The Priest of Rivers Bend chose to give this weapon to Sarengar Swiftbreeze to use to further the churches goals when they heard he was going to assist in building a new church in Drillian at the Jistille Estates and exchanged a cursed battle axe he had found during the Six Griffons Lodge story arc.

I have so many more bits to add to these stories.

  8. Not sure how ACKS works but i has a sword in 4e that let me take full damage from an area effect spell and noone else would be effected. I could suck in the full blast of a fireball say, so noone else was hurt. I like effects that have a cost.

  9. James LaManna basically 1st Edition D&D. But one-off powers like you describe would be cool too.
