Trying out making a hex map right in Roll20 without importing a map. I found some map icons I could knock out and turn into individual images. Then I can just paste them right onto the hex grid Roll20 makes.
It's a balancing act when it comes to making the map in roll20 via reusing icons like that. Use too many and you'll end up sluggish and laggy. use a single image background map, it's much quicker, but you can't move anything around.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point. In this use case, I'm trying to find a way to randomly generate a hex map. Every time you move into a new hex, I'll roll for what's in it. This map will be just for reference, not playing on. And it will fill up slowly.
ReplyDeleteAnd the images are about 1kb. That should help too.
ReplyDeleteAlso make sure you're placing the map stuff on the background map layer, not on the token layer...else you risk accidentally moving scenery around when you mean to move a player token around ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat process are you using to randomly generate the world?
ReplyDeleteThe one in Scarlet Heroes. I made a "savanah" terrain table since this is for my solo Spears of the Dawn idea. I thought I'd do it in Roll20 so I can easily keep a record of play.
ReplyDeleteThis screenshot was a test to see if it looked good. I'll start with just the village surrounded by grass and go east into the borderlands from there.
