In a world where mimics exist, doesn't it make sense to shoot an arrow at every treasure chest you find before trying to examine it?
Last ACKS session the party found a mimic impersonating a door and went around shooting doors for the rest of the night.
Always fun when paranoia has been instilled in the players' hearts.
ReplyDeleteWell it's always polite to knock. You want to let the orcs on the other side know you are coming, after all, so that they can be prepared.
ReplyDeleteS Robertson yeah, I feel similarly, and am extra careful to add clues whenever I use monsters or hazards like this.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first "gotcha" monster to show up so far. Good to keep them on their toes.

ReplyDeleteAt last, it makes sense. Now maybe I have to stop teasing my wife when she's playing Metroid, about the thought process that goes through designing a habitat where you shoot doors to open them.

ReplyDeletei was never a good enough DM to trick the PCs with the "babe" in disguise Medusa or Succubus either. Never worked for me.
