She locked herself in the bathroom.
She locked herself in the bathroom. Tapping her fingers on the sink. She's waiting for something. Oh, god, I think she's pregnant.
I'm addicted to this game. I'm still not good at it. I keep getting C's. Play style: Generic.

So much of this game's plot remains kind of a mystery to me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm still bummed you can't interact with the NES.
Beloch Shrike I actually wrote an interpretation up of wtf was going on this game when it came out, you wanna hear it?
ReplyDeleteYeah, sure!
ReplyDeleteThe game takes place in an alternate reality where instead of sneering out a cold war against each other the USA and the USSR got together and formed a coalition / the USA just out and out lost the cold war to the Russians. Whichever is the case the Russians seem to be largely in charge of the US and not everyone’s thrilled about this. Underground groups exist to attempt to bring independence back to the US, one such group had the idea to set up the “Hotline” program where violent, unstable individuals are semi mind-controlled / contracted to go on seemingly random acts of violence against Russian gangsters. The gangsters (I assume) have a big role to play in ensuring the ongoing oppression of the US population. The original masked character you play is clearly mentally unstable and this is encouraged by the same clerk you encounter throughout the game who feeds you drugs via the free food/drink and perverted media. This characters perceptions of events is more so distorted by the fact he is put into a coma (and presumably suffers brain damage) by the second character you play in the game. The showdown in the phone company between the two is in reality won by the motorcyclist and lost by the masked man who deludes himself into thinking he won the encounter. Possibly the masked character dragged himself home to be shot by another agent, or alternatively he imagined that scene to explain to his jilted mind why he was in hospital. Further the chronology of the first set of missions is mixed up by the brain damaged masked man (even though the dates progress in a sane manner).
ReplyDeleteAfter the masked character escapes hospital he basically becomes a rouge agent as the motorcyclist has killed the local controllers (the omnipresent janitors) of the hotline program. The masked man hunts down the local Russian boss after massacring the police and then has a cigarette to celebrate. This outcome wasn't desirable by the “Hotline” program as overt action against the Russian leadership is to be avoided, because it will lead to stricter Russian control on the US populace.
What makes you think the Russians actually took over, rather than simply being the Russian mob?
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts on why the clerk keeps changing jobs?
It also occurs to me that we're chatting in the thread of someone who hasn't finished the game yet, so it might be rude for us to sit here and discuss spoilers.
Wow, I never noticed that detail. Insane.
ReplyDeleteGood Point, sorry Casey Garske ! Beloch Shrike the clerk changes jobs because they aren't his real job, he's there to keep tabs on the player.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it!
ReplyDeleteMichael Raston I assumed that the clerk was changing jobs because he wasn't a real person - the main character was just hallucinating him.
ReplyDeleteCould be, my theory is that the clerk is THE reason the main character is losing it. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
ReplyDeleteI've avoided information on the sequel. Have they said it will continue the story, or is it more of a sequel with regards to style / gameplay?
ReplyDeleteIt's going to continue the story. It apparently will take place before and after the events of the first.
ReplyDeleteMan, that sounds cool. Really looking forward to playing it. >.>
