1001 Pagodas of Doom - 2nd Pagoda
Came to a door I couldn't get through in the first pagoda, searched for a second to plunder, planning to come back to the first after procuring a crowbar or after leveling and trying to pick the lock again. My roll indicated finding another pagoda entrance took an hour which meant a wandering monster roll. My luck continued as it has and 14 Pa'Kua Kobolds attacked me. I was doing ok, and had taken out eight of them when they got some lucky rolls and took Loplop down. They left him for dead, stealing his money, equipment, and fried rats. But they left him the one piece of treasure he's found so far. A calligraphy scroll worth 85 silver pieces. So far this venture has been a bust for Loplop. But there's nothing to do but continue now. He needs something to show for his trouble.
Whew. Found a room full of stirges. Luckily they failed a morale check and flew away. 250gp have been plundered. Time to stop pressing my luck and head back to Kwanloom.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's two rather good sessions, so time to level up.
Scarlet Heroes is a bit more forgiving since your party is only one person. I need to come up with a ”What Now?” table for being reduced to 0hp. This time I went for ”robbed.”
ReplyDeleteHeroes are made, guys, not born ;)
ReplyDeleteAre you using monster experience only? Awarding yourself some experience for exploration? Experience for treasure? Or just leveling up based on number of sessions?
ReplyDeleteScarlet heroes xp. Which is basically number of sessions. Fast at first, but gradually slowing. Level 10 comes at 54 xp I think.
ReplyDeleteOk. I must have skimmed over that part. That was one of my criticisms of that system, not listing rules for determining leveling. Apparently that criticism was unjustified.
ReplyDeletePage 22. The nice thing about playing like this is that I can do it just sitting at the computer when I'd be surfing the tubes anyway. When Loplop inevitably bites it, I'm going to switch to doing Spears of the Dawn in Scarlet Heroes style.
ReplyDeleteThe boundaries of a session were fuzzy to me when I tried it out. I think it would have been clearer if I had started with an Urban or Dungeon adventure. I tried the wilderness which seemed little open ended for defining the start and end of a session.
