Scarlet Heroes - Mad Monks of Kwantoom

Scarlet Heroes - Mad Monks of Kwantoom
Action in Loplop's second day of just trying to shop for equipment in his home district of Kwanloom. I'd barely been able to buy flint and steel, some firecrackers, and some darts the day before. Now in the Kenku ghetto of Little Heavenly Murder (post from my campaign community follows):

Loplop is accosted by nine kenku thugs thinking to kidnap him and make his master pay a ransom! They are unaware Master Wang has died and that is why Loplop has decided to seek his fortune in the 1001 Pagodas of Doom.

Round 1: Loplop swings wildly, apparently missing, but knocking one kidnapper in the face with his elbow accidentally. (Missed attack, Fray die 1HD DM).
The remaining 8 kidnappers attack! They batter Loplop for 3 points of damage!

Round 2: Being wounded and still severely outnumbered, Loplop attempts to escape the kidnappers, leaping to the rooftops (2d8+2 dex+3 monk trait=13). Three of the kidnappers manage to keep up with him and the fight continues on the rooftop with much better odds.

Round 3: With a flurry of kicks (12+3+7AC=22, a hit for 2HD DM) and a timely accidental tripping (Fray die 1HD DM), the three kenku kidnappers are knocked off the roof and land on their compatriots below. Loplop takes a moment to rest and mend his wounds as best he can. (2 hp healed)

Pretty fun. Remains to be seen if I'll be able to buy a backpack, food, booze, or hire a linkboy.

  1. Managed to buy a wicker backpack and 12 fried rats for rations. That'll do. Off to the Pagodas of Doom.

  2. Scarlet Heroes did strike me as a good way to do wuxia with an OSR joint, without needing a specialized sub-system for it. All because of the Fray Die.

  3. Absolutely. No need for multiple attacks or anything. Every roll has the ability to take out several low HD opponents. And since Loplop is a drunken boxer a'la Jackie Chan, anytime he misses but still does damage with the Fray die, that's an accidental hit.
