Dinosaur is actually a flightless bird, which means it's a dinosaur that is descended from another dinosaur that flew. There was a long time where if you were walking around the paleozoic, you would not have been able to distinguish between a "bird" and a "non-bird." Especially one that was secondarily flightless.

I would actually think that south american terror birds were very similar to a small T-rex. Hunting with specialized skulls.
