Finished watching season 1 of Rebels last night.

Finished watching season 1 of Rebels last night. Can I even properly express how great it was? Here are some words: Tarkin, blaster-lightsaber, non-OSHA compliant catwalk, sassy droid, stolen custom-painted TIE, dogfight, last-minute rescue, Corellian Corvettes, pew-pew-pew!

  1. It's so damn good, isn't it?

Top of my list for Favorite Star Wars Anything.

  2. They just nail the Star Wars feel!

  3. It might be for me too. This goes back to Rebels feeling like a WEG Star Wars campaign.

did you see the about/making of vids where they explicitly call WEGSW out as an inspiration?

  5. No! Do you have a link? YouTube or the Disney website?

I watched it originally on the starwars.com site, where the Rebels episodes are hosted, but I don't know where it is now.

  7. Don't you just love that TIE fighter? :D

  8. The second half really picked up. We stopped watching around so 8 the first time around because it was way too Disney following the epicness of Clone Wars.

My wife who loved Clone Wars referred to it as Star Wars Babies (ala Muppet Babies) because of how goofy the tone was...much like some of the earlier Avatar eps.

I'm glad I went back and watched it, because it did get better, as many shows do. But nowhere near the magnificence that was The Clone Wars

  9. I really really liked the smaller scale of Rebels - the more personal stakes, the more local environment.  I thought it made a great contrast to Clone Wars in that.  Together, they really capture two sides of Star Wars.

  10. I haven't watched all of Clone Wars. Couldn't interest Abby when she was little. Coop seems to be picking up the Star Wars slack though.

It must be addressed, but all I can think when watching the very human clone-troopers is that they turn on a dime when Order 66 is issued.

  11. I am sloooowly going through Clone Wars on Netflix. There are some maddeningly inane fillerbunny episodes (the droids and froggy commander needed to be only one episode, if that), to the extent that I feel we could lose about 25% of what was done and have a much better story.

  12. I loved the small scale of Rebels too.

Here's an interesting thought that popped into my head related to how Rebels feels like an RPG.

I wonder what the correlation is between people who really love Rebels and also really love Wil Wheaton's Fantasy AGE gamecast vs people who are less enamored of Rebels and also less enamored of Wil's game.

Because most of the stuff I don't like about Rebels, is the same stuff I don't like about the TableTop play.

  13. Casey G. I hope you don't mind the spoilerish comment, but order 66 is addressed to ward the end of the series.

  14. Ralph Mazza my self-loathing kicks in trying to listen or watch other people play RPGs, so I don't know.

  15. Casey G. I always end up thinking, "Oh god, am I that big a dork when I run games?"

    answer:  yes.  yes I am.

  16. Casey G. I can't listen to my own podcast after recording. I SHOULD, but I sound like PG-13 Velma Dinkley, so, eh.

  17. Ralph Mazza - I for one would never even look at a podcast tabletop game, but I love Rebels. Then again, I'm not real good about fitting into categories... :D

  18. The best Star Wars media since 'Jedi. Later on they bump into an important character from the main series, and it is incredible

  19. I like this WAY better than Clone Wars for all the reasons stated above.  Most importantly, it made me OK with Disney taking over the franchise.

  20. Exactly, James LaManna! If Disney "gets" Star Wars on this level, it is in safe hands. :D
