Why do white whiskers stick out of my beard perpendicular to my face?

Why do white whiskers stick out of my beard perpendicular to my face? Is there a biological rule? I know I'm getting old, whiskers. No need to remind me.

    I get the antennae in my eyebrows. One hair, jet black, 10x thicker than the rest of my eyebrows.
