5e has that optional rule where you use Proficiency Dice instead of a Proficiency Bonus, so that +2 = +1d4, +3= +1d6, +4=+1d8, etc. You could do that with ability score bonuses and magic item bonuses too. A +1 could be a d2. No modifiers, just extra dice. Might be fun.

  2. I personally love the idea of dice opposed to static numbers. This was one thing I really liked during the playtest. The Proficiency Dice.

  3. I just realized you could shave about 8 points off all DCs and roll only proficiency+stat modifier and never touch the d20 again.
