Note to publishers: Quickstart rules for Free RPG Day are bullshit.

Note to publishers: Quickstart rules for Free RPG Day are bullshit. No one wants them. An actual (even slim!) adventure or supplement will tell you more about a ruleset than a quickstart.

LotFP, Paizo, Pelgrane, and Chaosium actually have useful items for Free RPG Day, but that's it. And I'll get Slugs because I'll have to ask for it, but with how few Pelgrane and Chaosium items there are per box, your odds of getting them are slim.

Slügs! is now at the printer. Came in at 36 pages + cover.

Me, Kelvin Green,  Jez Gordon, Tazio Bettin, Joshua Blackketter, Rich Longmore, and Yannick Bouchard all came together to do a very strange project in a very short time.

I don't know if I can say I'm "nervous" about this one; it's more curiosity about how the general gaming public will receive it and whether or not it gets pulled by stores and how many nasty emails I'll be getting from industry people when word gets out about it.

I'd originally thought "Maybe a Free RPG Day thing should be broadly appealing and ease people into the LotFP thing" and then I thought "I've been so tied up with shit that I haven't had a byline in AGES and I'm not going to waste anyone's time with training wheels strangeness. Dig it or fuck off."

Always an attitude that appeals to potential customers.

Find a local participating game store for the June 18 event. If you can't find one, Noble Knight always has a pile that they'll send with an order. I won't even have copies myself until GenCon and I'll only be bringing enough back to send out to the contributors.

  1. Huh.

I always thought FFG's Star Wars starter boxes were pretty sweet.

  2. Not boxes, quickstart rules for Free RPG day.

  3. Khepera's is both a quick start and an adventure. The quick start is so you don't need to have bought the book if you want to play the adventure.

  4. The stuff LotFP does for Free RPG Day is kind of the only reason I show up. The DCC stuff is pretty good too. That CoC one looks interesting, but geez, 2/box?

  5. How does it work? Do you get just one item for being in the store?

  6. The retailer buys a box (or more) of the FreeRPG Day goodies. Typically, they limit people to one (sometimes 2 or 3) item from the giveaways, but no purchase is required to get one of the freebies.

In addition, many stores will also turn it into an event, with demos of RPGs, either the ones from the kit or whatever people are interested in running.
