Frostgrave on the brain.
Frostgrave on the brain. I talked to an Osprey guy at Gen Con. He said they had no plans for RPG books for Frostgrave. But it's so D&D that very little would need to be tweaked to make it into a campaign setting.
No clerics, paladins, rangers, druids, warlocks, bards, or sorcerers (unless you have non-spellcasting versions of paladins, bards, and rangers)
Humans only, (or not, who cares.)
Tweaks to 5e spell schools to match Frostgrave schools.
Expanded spell lists for the wizard bringing in some cleric and druid spells.
The PCs could be working for a more powerful wizard, or just be in it for themselves. Rival crews would be a major source of antagonists.
So the idea for Frostgrave is that bands consist of a wizard and his henchmen?
ReplyDeleteI'd be tempted to make some kind of weird Ryuutama-ish system where the wizard and the GM are the same thing, and players are all henchmen.
I don’t know anything about Ryuutama. Is the GM always an in-game character like Dungeon Master in the D&D cartoon?
ReplyDeleteThe GM is a dragon that can aid or harm the PCs, and also chronicles their exploits. I haven't read the whole book so I'm not 100% clear on how that works.
ReplyDeleteAn all non-spellcasting party at the whim of a powerful Wizard is a pretty good idea.
ReplyDeleteMight be cool to come up with a way for the party to invoke the wizard's aid on a limited basis, a la Gandalf popping up in The Hobbit to save everybody's bacon when they need him most.
ReplyDelete"Man, we're in a tight spot! Too bad Zebrulom isn't here."
[Zebrulom appears in a puff of purple smoke]
"Timid, mortal fools! Dunderheads! Thrice-damned, empty-headed fops! I told you to avoid the Mountains of Night!" [Zebrulom fireballs the ghouls]
"Now find me the Pearl of Darkest Truth!" [disappears in another puff of purple smoke]
Isn't that basically Ars Magica?
