I don’t think I’ve ever seen as glowing a look of pure joy on five-year-old Coop’s face as when he watched Gipsy Danger wade out into the ocean to fight Knifehead.
Saw it on IMAX when it came out and my wife remarked, "I thought you were going to die" on my breathlessness at the initial action scenes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was a bit older than five. Chronologically, anyway.
I too had the same look. I rewatch this movie quite often.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't watched it in a while. After the first fight he ran to his room to build robots and kaiju out of Legos. I had to tell him to come back and watch the movie to see more robots. His Lego robots were fighting his Kaiju the whole time we watched.
ReplyDeleteI watch this movie all the time. I saw it twice in theatres. I have ~posters~ of it.
ReplyDeleteMan, watching that film I was just thinking, "that ship would have snapped in two when GD picked up it, don't they know basic physics?".
ReplyDeleteThen there was the larger part of my brain saying, "SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!"
I remember in the commentary Del Toro said basically "Yeah, the ship never would have done that, but isn't it awesome?"
ReplyDeleteAlso a huge fan. Some of the best supporting characters in any movie, too.
ReplyDeleteAaron Heh. Good to know. I usually don't watch commentary on movies myself. That's just one instance of broken physics in that movie though, yet pretty much all of them (I hesitate to say all because I may be forgetting something) were overshadowed by "[expletive[ YEAH!"
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me; I haven't watched Pacific Rim in a few months!
