Say you’re at the mall and suddenly the building pitches up vertical because the mall is actually a Transformer and now you’re in its leg. You want to go up because you’re chasing a different transformer at that’s where it is going. So a running fight while climbing and dodging falling material goods and consumers that are now falling past you.

Arbitrarily, I’m going to say there are sixteen “elevations” to go up before you’re out of the leg and into the next part of the Mall-former. This seems to call for a special system.
This is 5e, so you get a move and an action. We’re going to call this 2 actions, only one can be an attack.
Options:
Climb – moves you up one elevation. DC 10 athletics/acrobatics check. A fail means no progress up. A 1 means you fall.
Dodge – you have advantage on saves to get out of the way of debris or an attack against you has disadvantage.
Rescue – make a DC 10 ability score roll of your choice, if successful, you rescue someone and get a point of inspiration.
Attack – attack the escaping transformer.

The Transformer will randomly do a combo of:
Climb
Endanger
Attack

What else?

  1. Player Options:

Make a reference to a childhood tv show- gives you a plus 1 to your next attack but minus 1 to AC. Or, inflicts Advantage/Disadvantage to the same things.

Crass commercialism- grab the nearest falling item and use it to try and jam up the Mall-former's works. Mechanical benefit is at the DM's fiat (hopefully the DM has a cool list of shit found inside a mall for you to mess with.)

Mall cop's frustration- pull the nearest fire alarm. This sets off sprinklers and a roaring siren inside the Mall-former on a successful DC 14 Dex check. At lower levels the water can become another hazard as it begins filling up the inside of the Mall-former.

  2. Intimidate - goes on and on about the superiority of transformers over organic life. Does some kind of demoralizing attack on PCs or civilians (adds a disadvantage? A condition?).

  3. Jarrett you'll be glad to know the next encounter area is the mall aquarium in the Mall-formers crotch. Crotch sharks.
