Greetings to our Google+ community. As many of you may have heard, Google has announced their plans to shut down the Google Hangouts API as of April 25, 2017.

As we’ve seen previously relying on these third party services has been unsustainable for us. We want you to know we’re going to continue to prioritize the development of our own voice and video solution.

  2. There is no practical reason not to have Roll20 and Hangouts open in separate windows. Combining the two has always been more trouble than it's worth.

  4. You can do that just fine with multiple windows, and you don't have to drop the size of your Roll20 to miniscule levels.

  5. Jeremy Murphy is spot on. Having the two separate ends up being a smoother experience on both ends, as they no longer impact each other's performances. I hope they don't spend too much time and too many resources reinventing wheels here. Or I should say that I hope that they are able to easily do what they need to do, without impacting other development needs. When there are already numerous video conferencing apps available, it seems kinda unnecessary.

  6. Yeah, but not every use case is the same. I just have a laptop, and multiple windows doesn’t really work. I didn’t think I’d miss the video feed when we were playing last week, but I did. Having everything on one screen was nice.

  7. I've been following a Roll20 thread about this conversion from their old Tok system to whatever the new tech is. In the end the change is for the greater good, since the new technology will open up pathways for the devs to incorporate cool features that currently simply aren't available.

    In the meantime, however, yeesh! The whack-a-mole game is strong with the bugs.
