Because I can’t get enough testosterone-soaked historical fiction lately, I’m listening to The Last Kingdom. Finally got the audiobook from the library. I think it got popular after the show came out. The wait is not as long for the rest of the books thankfully. Really satisfies the craving for hot shieldwall-on-shieldwall action. And different enough from the show that I don’t think either spoils the other.
That is the dumbest-ass shieldwall I've ever seen. I liked the book, though.
ReplyDeleteThe show is not very historical, design wise, it's true.
ReplyDeleteWhich is too bad, because the books have a lot of really cool elements that explain the constraints of historical warfare. Travel times, supplies, communications, difficulty of dealing with fortifications. So much stuff that many books just gloss over are essential considerations in Cornwell's novels.
ReplyDeleteCasey G. pick up The Religion. You will not be sorry.

I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteIs there a second and third book in the Tannhauser trilogy?
ReplyDeleteLooks like Twelve Children of Paris is the second one, and came out a few years ago. No third one yet.
ReplyDeleteI have not read the 2nd one yet
