Shit & Shieldwalls
Always thinking about the next campaign instead of the one I'm playing. Wrote up a short timeline for Shit & Shieldwalls after deciding that including King Arthur has too much baggage. Going a bit earlier, with the chaos that follows most of the Briton nobility being killed by Saxon treachery during the Treachery of the Seax.

The PC's would be guards of Eldol of Glevum, legendary sole survivor of the massacre.

Start with a set-piece battle, then into the hex-crawling and domain stuff as the PCs establish their reputations and attract followers of their own.
Timeline
407: Constantine III withdraws Roman legions from Britain. They do not return.
410: Britons expel last Roman bureaucrats. Traditional tribal Briton kingdoms established.
420: Picts attack Britain from the north.
425: Scotti land on the western shore and conquer it.
446: Years of war take their toll and the Britons write to Roman General Flavius Aetius seeking help against the barbarians. Aetius tells Britain to look to its own defense.
447: British High King Vortigern of Powys hires Saxon mercenary brothers Hengist and Horsa to help fight the Picts and Irish against the wishes of his advisor, the druid Myrddin.
448: After successful campaigns against the barbarians, Hengist and Horsa are granted the Isle of Thanet. Vortigern marries Hengist’s daughter to seal the peace.
450: Vortigern also marries his daughter by his first wife, encouraged by the pagan Rowena. Bishop Germanus turns the Britons against Vortigern and he is forced into hiding. The Saxons spread from Thanet into eastern Britain, establishing the kingdom of Kent. Vortigern’s son from his first marriage, Vortimer, opposes their invasion, driving them back.
452: Vortimer mysteriously dies, and Vortigern is reestablished as high king. He calls for a peace council between the kings of Britain and the Saxons. The meeting place is a camp erected near Stonehenge. Consul Eldol of Glevum is among the invited. Myrddin declines to attend...
