From Voyageurs National Park on FB: Called “Catamaran” by locals, Bert Upton is among the strangest of historical characters on area waters. He lived in a hut built over a dug-out at Squirrel Narrows. Found frozen to death in the 1930s by Kettle Falls pioneer Oliver Knox; Upton was perched lifeless in the snow just a half-mile from his home. Shunning civilization, Upton defined the word hermit. First spotted rowing his crude log raft on Namakan, no one knows how he got there. Upton’s accent implied an English heritage but any personal inquiries brought a stony silence. Some suspected him a man fleeing the law; others saw a bizarre outcast; everyone knew he was peculiar. Just five feet tall and wildly unkempt, Catamaran wore hacked-off pants and walked barefoot with a stick. Winter demanded shoes but no socks, a cast-off Mackinaw, and a trailing cap made from the leg of old underwear. He was oddly religious, and suspicious of being poisoned. Surviving on snared rabbits and fish, he ofte...

I played for 3 hours. Stopped for dinner. Came back and couldn’t get the game to run. Hoping it gets a quick patch before I try and play today.
ReplyDeleteDidn't even have time. 😒
ReplyDeleteWhat game is this?
ReplyDeleteThe new Battletech video game. Pic is from the original Battletech 3025 book from the 80's.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t even know there was a new battletech game! Wow!
ReplyDeleteIt's buggy as hell for me, but I'm pretty sure its because I'm trying to run it on a MAC. reviewers loved the game.
ReplyDeleteI'm playing on my MAC too. The problem I had yesterday was that I couldn't load my saved game or continue. I launched the game, quit the game, then launched it again. It seemed to have worked. I'm enjoying it, the campaign is fun so far, the tactics and visuals are good. I've had a couple visual stutters but no other bugs yet.
ReplyDeleteDevin Night Same here. It feels very much like playing the tabletop game.
ReplyDeleteCasey G. I have that Technical Readout on my desk! One of the best things about working on the Infinity RPG, and particularly their upcoming TAGs book, is that I get read it as a peer :)
I'm on vacation with my subpar laptop. Its slow as heck but also fun as heck.
ReplyDeleteI played the opening scenario last night. Pretty freaking great. Very classic Battletech. I liked the character creation bonuses.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I got it working better and it looks like a lot of fun. The learning curve is steep for me because I never played battletech back in the day. So the capacities and character of the different weapons, and types of mechs are only slowly becoming apparent to me. I'm 1/2 half way through the first scenario.
ReplyDeleteI played for about 9 hours yesterday, and I'm chomping at the bit to finish work and play some more. The fights are interesting and exciting. Getting a rare critical on a mech where you knock it down or take it out with minimal damage feels really good. The time spent between fights also feels important.
ReplyDeleteLast night after 7 hours of playing I realized that you can change the priority of jobs in the que, so shorter mech repairs can be bumped ahead of longer ones.
