Finally got a Hunchback.

Finally got a Hunchback. Tough as hell. Took on two Thunderbolts at point blank range and lost a leg, but that was after absorbing a ton of hits, a punch, a DFA(!), and a stomp when he fell down. After all of that didn't even get a complete Thunderbolt out of the deal. Which sucks. I need another heavy.

  1. I was reading the list and then it gets to the DFA and it continues and I'm like "hunchback is hella sturdy o_0"

  2. Ah Medusa, you creepy looking psycho.

  3. I never played Mechwarrior on PC. I never had a machine good enough to play it on. Loved the tabletop in the early 90s. I remember going to Virtual World in Las Vegas before I could gamble and wasting many dollars in the same Battlemech pods that show up to GenCon.

  4. I'm trying to find the last few mechs I don't have and it's annoying as hell. Especially since two of them are lights, which don't really show up much at this point for me.

  5. Blair Fitzpatrick Medusa tried to be funny in the last mission and it made him even creepier. Meanwhile, Barbarian takes out a Shadow Hawk with his AC20 and declares, "Are there none who can stand before me?"

  6. Medusa's a perfectly chill guy, IDK why y'all are finding him creepy.

I have a HBK on ice right now - on the one hand I really do want to use it because nothing in my lance mounts an AC20, but I'm not really sure what I'd want to swap out (LRM boat, stock Orion, stock Kintaro, or medlas Black Knight)

  7. I wish I had a Black Knight or an Orion.

  8. Yeah wow DFA and then a stomp and still up. Wild.

  9. Lately I've been rolling with a Highlander and three specialised Orions, an up-armored K that's named "Missile Magnet", an LRM-focused K, and the "Nutcracker" Orion-V that's a beast in close. This is what happens when you consistently ignore the story missions and grind the side ones.

  10. Casey G. and Calib Kerensky are getting close to forcing my hand into buying this game.

  11. Humza K Medusa's gaze. He has seen some shit. Plus he's been nonchalantly slaughtering in my game.

  12. You should Andy Garske. The campaign is awesome, plus if you want you can skirmish against your friends in lance on lance combat.

  13. I took the heat sinks out of the Hunchback and maxed the armor.

  14. I currently roll with two Battlemasters I refit to use AC/20's as my "tanks" and close range and get the enemy into a scrap. I support the "tanks" with a Highlander and either a LRM boat Stalker, or an Orion with AC/5s for mid to long range sniping. I have an all laser Grasshopper with leg supports that I have been itching to try out, but Ive recently been fighting on desert biomes and im worried it will get too hot.

I saw a Cataphract for the first time last night, but ended up coring it out due to some poorly managed LRM fire attempting to hit its legs while prone. Only 1 scrap :(

  15. My bad luck with salvage continues. 2/3 of a Wolverine and 2/3 of another Jagermech when 3 of each were available in the same mission.

  16. I have found the descriptions on many of those side missions to be mis-leading, causing me to fumble my negotiations. They will say something like:

"we want you to eliminate a heavy pirate lance operating in the area" - so naturally you drool and slide the salvage bar all the way right. Then you end up facing 4 heavy vehicles and get mad when you loot 12 medium lasers.

Then after about 3-4 of those mis-steps you say "screw it" and settle for 2/8 with about $500k payout, than THAT is when you see a tricked out Atlas or Zeus and you bang your head on the keyboard when you get a lucky head shot, only to have Kamea Arano insist that you cut that mech up into 3 parts so you get 2/3 and she walks away with the other 1/3 laughing all the way to the bank.

  17. Oh does anyone else feel a little bad when you sell the mech you just salvaged and have no need for "back" to the people on the planet you just looted it from? Job security I guess. Ill come back next month and just blow it up again.

  18. Calib Kerensky I figured that was you selling to your contacts, not to the folks who you just pounded the shit out of :)

  19. I haven't done much buying/selling, so last night was the first time I noticed it puts a faction on the store and your discount/markup is related to your rep with that faction. So I had like a 50% markup because Arano was invading that planet. We'll see who's in control after the mission!

  20. Buying generally isn't the best way to get mechs, but it can be handy here and there (I bought an Urbanmech last night). You'll start to get bigger mechs as salvage as the difficulty increases. I'm drowning in Orions and I don't even really use them anymore. Thunderbolts are even worse like that for me. To the point where I immediately sell an Orion or T-bolt that I get from salvage.

  21. Casey G. selling Locusts, Spiders, and a bunch of extra equipment (heat sinks, jump jets, medium lasers - you will never need 100 of these) is how you can easily stay afloat in this game. The moment I learned how to make money selling off extra crap, that is when I started to mostly do contracts for salvage and rep. Salvage is almost always worth more then the max payment you will receive, you just may have to wait a few months before you can cash in on that 1/3 of a mech you got.

  22. Yeah, definitely sell off excess MLAS/heatsinks/jump jets. (Especially since too many items can slow down your game apparently!)
