A friend and I used to play the ancient Mechwarrior PC game and he lost so many deathmatches trying to Death from Above me. But he succeeded once, and that's all he needed to lord it over me for the rest of time.
Haven't tried death from above yet. Is it effective? Got a sweet one punch / one kill yesterday, but I haven't been in melee enough to know if that was a fluke or if big mechs can just usually beat the crap out of smaller frames.
Harley Stroh, my Shadow Hawk crushed an undamaged Locust and it was so sweet. I had to kill it fast because I was defending a building and it was almost destroyed.
Harley Stroh big mechs can definitely one-shot a smaller mech, or at the very least rip off an arm/torso.
DFA is Pretty Damn Sweet, but it leaves you vulnerable. Also note that it counts as a melee attack, so if you're running with, say, a Firestarter and DFA into an enemy's back arc... you get to thwomp them heavily AND possibly heat-lock them or rip up their back armor. Of course, your Firestarter is now awfully vulnerable...
If you want to DFA, make sure you have maxed armor on your mech's legs. The Auto-armor button on the refit screen tends to systemically short leg armor, which makes even large/tough mechs vulnerable when they DFA.
Weren't we talking about Ironman mode from XCOM? Go full old school Casey, live with the consequences of your decisions! The emergent narrative will be all the richer for it.
You can speed up your gameplay by turning off shoulder cam and dropping the cinematic sliders to a minimum. The shoulder cam shots and animations are cool for maybe the first two combat matches, then they get old and you just want to move with your next Mech. After I did that my match time played improved significantly.
Originally shared by Andrew “Incomitatum” Chason Hit Me with your Horror I am looking for some horror flicks. The newer the better. Good is good too. I liked House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects . I liked both the new Texas Chainsaw movies. Hills Have Eyes 1 was good (never saw the second . Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 come to mind as well. A little camp, and/or "back woods" can't hurt. Any of you have any recommendations? Lets try and not go too far back than mid 90's. Aside: How was the new "Freddy" movie? Suggested So Far • Bones (2001) • Drag Me to Hell (2009) • The Grudge (2004) • Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) • Dog Soldiers (2002) • The Decent (2005) • Creature (2011) • The Last Winter (2006)
Mike Ness auto-awesomed What a weird show. Huge mosh pit full of dude-bros and middle aged dudes (and some badass chick with hemp purse that she never lost) stomping around like the freakin' Bushwackers from the WWF. Met a middle-aged english couple who used to be in the music distributor business who had been at a bunch of the same shows as we had over the last few years.

ReplyDeleteWhat forces dare defend this world from the steel talons of the Jade Falcon? You dishonor Zellbrigen by saving your game.

ReplyDeleteHumza K the spiteful small-laser shot into the smoking wreckage of your destroyed opponent makes me laugh every time.
ReplyDelete"And another thing -- BZZT!!"
ReplyDeleteMech equivalent of teabagging...
ReplyDeleteIn the new HBS game, if you know your lore, there's an achievement related to doing a specific DFA.

ReplyDeleteDo they have kill cams and replays?
This is what I have to say about that:

gregory blair yes to kill cams and cinematic shots; I don't think there are replays though.
ReplyDeleteCasey G. :D
ReplyDeleteKill Cams are fun with the right mix but I had to turn them off in Skyrim.
I just finished XCOM enemy within and it was fun I needed help with base construction so thanks Internet!
ReplyDeleteIf only the load times weren't that long! T.T
