Shit & Shieldwalls post
Trying something different. I'm doing all my random rolling ahead of time so I can prepare in Roll20. I know where the PCs will be travelling to, so I know how many times to roll. Amazingly, I only rolled one encounter, everything else is weather related (they'll be making a lot of saves vs. the cold, but the weather gets better halfway through their trip. BUT that one encounter came up BOXCARS and that means a dragon. This is the second time. Last time they opened the lair but chickened out with the dragon just out of sight. Now he's out and marauding. They're 3rd level. If they choose to travel fast their perception checks will be penalized.

They will be warned that the dragon is around though. And I'm using the young red dragon stats. I'm not a total asshole DM.

Google Translate (may it never be shut off) helped me with an amazing name:
AURUMIGNIS MORTIFERUM

  1. Skyrim taught me that dragons show up at the most inopportune times...

  2. The Amazon bought a horse and the dragon snatched it and flew away with all her equipment. Good thing she bought that horse or it would have been a PC.

  3. Casey G. agree this is a way better trade

  4. For a certain kind of game, I build tools like this one and then print out a stack of results for random stuff -- encounters or hexes or lairs or whatever and just take them to the game:
