Daniel Swensen my favorite dinosaur seems trite, but it's T-Rex. The greatest predator to walk the earth. All others are pretenders, even the ones that were slightly bigger.
My least are protosauropods. Lame triassic plant eaters. Get back to me when you're 100 feet long, guys.
Dinosaurs are cool, I talked about them on my Ask Me Anything thread. But what about Megalodon? Could they eat a T-Rex? Disadvantage for terrain notwithstanding, of course.
Bonus: Will Riders of the Purple Lotus have sharks? It should have sharks.
Renee Knipe I think T-Rex and megalodon are like Batman and Captain America. So evenly matched they immediately realize neither can win and so they team up.
RotPL will have an interior ocean so of course I'll work megalodon in there. Along with Xiphictinus, mosasaurus, and plesiosaurus. That should do it for sea monsters.
Tom Tyson I don't know if I even know the answer to that. Maybe the old Broncosaurus Rex by Goodman Games? But I never bought anything for that except the "Complete T-Rex" and "Complete Velociraptor."
So I'll say Hollow Earth Expeditions because it's got quite a few and their art is excellent.
Hopefully people will want RotPL for the dinosaur stats even if they don't care about hexcrawls.
I always thought of T-Rex like the male lion. Predator or scavenger when the opportunity arises. He wouldn't pass up chasing a hyena away from a meal but could hunt most of the time as well. The same applies for a bald eagle that I saw chasing away some crows from a dead deer.
Least favorite? That's hard. I don't think I've ever played a truly bad system.
OK, least favorite that I've purchased is Aces and Eights. I thought the shot clock thing looked awesome, then I read it and it had the fiddliest mechanics I've ever read. And as alternate history it was completely boring.
Originally shared by Jonathan Tweet Tonight, my "Lethal Damage" 13th Age campaign draws to a close. Meanwhile, the guys are work have talked me into running a couple D&D sessions for them. That was the day 13th Age was announced, and they're happy to play 13th Age instead. That will be my "Great Center" campaign, based in the imperial capital of Axis, the center of the world. It's my opportunity to explore the setting from yet another perspective.
Where did it all go wrong, Casey? I can’t pinpoint it, but it was already too late when they remade 3:10 to Yuma and took a movie that was mostly two men talking about morality in a hotel room and put in a Gatling gun.
Where is the love for the struthioformes, man?
ReplyDeleteHow many hit dice do you give to velociraptors? Real ones, not the oversized Jurassic Park ones.
ReplyDeleteIf you were to run Jurassic Park, how long before your work destroyed the world?

Sandy Jacobs-Tolle they're coming. I've noticed too. Standard 1st level mount for the ostrich dinos will be the Gally (gallimimus).
ReplyDeleteAre you a professional Dino-guy?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think dinosaurs tasted like?
ReplyDeleteWayne Rossi 1d8-1.
ReplyDeleteTonya Wershow see the movie Carnosaur. I'd have chickens exploding giving birth to t-rex eggs all over the place.
ReplyDeleteRyan Shelton No, I'm a credit manager.
ReplyDeleteCasey Garske *nods* I'd watch that! :)
ReplyDeleteDaniel Swensen It's bullshit. Almost no carnivore is a complete scavenger. The list is like:
ReplyDeleteVulture.
and that's it.
T-Rex was a tiger, a large predator who would or course scavenge when it could scare smaller animals from their kill.
Marshall Miller Probably depends on what the dino ate. The birdlike dinos, being ancestors of birds, probably tasted close to wild fowl.
ReplyDeleteThe big herbivores, who knows. I hope they tasted like a nice steak though.
If dinosaurs played an RPG, which one would they play and who would be the GM?

Pete Figtreethat sounds like a deal breaker.
ReplyDeleteJames LaManna they play the D&D Council of Wyrms box set. Velociraptor is the GM. She's a clever girl.

Perfect!
ReplyDeleteSo which RPG has the most cool dinosaur writeups?

ReplyDeleteExactly, Barry.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your least favorite RPG? Based on setting or game play, unfinished products are too easy of targets.
