Level two of the Labyrinth of the Necrons.

Level two of the Labyrinth of the Necrons. Have to kill the Lynchguard before activating the console. Also took Gabriel of the Blood Angels this time. He had a support power where you get to look at the next Necron reinforcement card which is really useful. Frostclaw had the blessing of the Omnissiah, so he was able to quickly activate the console. Brother Grimm was slow getting out though since he was far away from the exit and has less actions. But in the final rounds both his cards were first and he stomped his way to the stairwell.

Mrs. G. insinuated that Kurt Russell's beard in the Christmas Chronicles wasn't real and I have rarely been so upset or indignant.

Space Marine post

Image
Space Marine post I got Coop Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons for Christmas. It's like a simple version of Flashpoint: Fire Rescue but with Necrons instead of smoke. We beat the first level with Brothers Frostclaw and Infernus wounded, but alive. A major victory for the Battle Brothers.

Used the 5e chase rules for the first time ever, DM or player.

Used the 5e chase rules for the first time ever, DM or player. The wizard with one hit point ran through a herd of deer and had to make a save or be impaled, and he did it. Then he fell off a cliff 1d4x5 ft in height, so any roll but a 1 would have caused him to roll on my death & dismemberment chart, but he rolled a 1 and so he lived. If you roll a bunch of times you end up with a lot of repeats. Calls for a larger custom table, but pretty good mini system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC6lY-5Hi9g

It's 6:45 and I'm prepared for my game at 8:00.

More pre-rolling encounters and interpretation

Image
More pre-rolling encounters and interpretation I’m rolling for encounters ahead of time again, and noticing that it allows you to tie things together if you wish to add a bit of verisimilitude. Just a little thing, but I rolled an encounter, then rolled for type and got humans, then on my sub-table and got a Noble. Why is this noble out roaming around in the middle of winter? I don’t know yet. Keep rolling and later get another encounter, type: animal. I look at my scanty list of British animals and instead of rolling just decide it’s a giant boar and that the previous encounter was the noble out hunting it with her entourage. The third encounter I rolled was a UFO (because how could I have an encounter table without a UFO?). But far enough away that the PC’s can investigate or not, whatever they wish. In the condition they are, I’m guessing they will not.

One sappy Christmas picture.

Image
One sappy Christmas picture. Mrs. G has a very talented cousin who makes stuffed animals from drawings, usually a kid's. But we had her make stuffed versions of our sadly passed on dogs, Bogart who we had for 14 years, and Alice that we only had for 4 weeks. I had doodled them, and that's what we had her make them from. They turned out super cute.

Finished the audiobook of Malleus, the second Eisenhorn book.

Finished the audiobook of Malleus, the second Eisenhorn book. Once again, just great pulp fiction, with one badass thing after another happening. But also some interesting unreliable narrator stuff. Eisenhorn’s evolution as a character is very real, even for a world as ridiculous as 40K. But the main thing is massive amounts of violence. Besides the cold-open, the first main scene is like five Akiras all at once, then Assault on Precinct 13, Scanners, and Firestarter mashed together and turned up to 11.

Pre-rolling, dragons, weird towns, and Schmuck Bait

Image
Pre-rolling, dragons, weird towns, and Schmuck Bait Hoo boy, very close to a TPK in last night’s Christmas/Solstice/Sol Invictus adventure. The party took all the schmuck bait. In order to secure the church’s financial assistance for the coming war, the party’s lord lends them to Bishop Germanus. This crabby old dude sends them to retrieve a heretical book from a church in Saxon territory. I pre-rolled all the random encounters, which worked super slick. I’m going to do that as much as possible from now on. The dragon mentioned in my previous post ate the horse the Amazon warrior had just traded a fine mail coat for, taking all her equipment except her weapons with her. The weather results were easily…weathered… with survival rolls from the ranger. Reaching the town this church was in, they met the locals having some sort of festival. Atlas Obscura had an article about the Mari Lwyd, which is one of those supposedly ancient things that is actually fairly new. https://en.wikipedia.org/

Shit & Shieldwalls post

Image
Shit & Shieldwalls post Trying something different. I'm doing all my random rolling ahead of time so I can prepare in Roll20. I know where the PCs will be travelling to, so I know how many times to roll. Amazingly, I only rolled one encounter, everything else is weather related (they'll be making a lot of saves vs. the cold, but the weather gets better halfway through their trip. BUT that one encounter came up BOXCARS and that means a dragon. This is the second time. Last time they opened the lair but chickened out with the dragon just out of sight. Now he's out and marauding. They're 3rd level. If they choose to travel fast their perception checks will be penalized. They will be warned that the dragon is around though. And I'm using the young red dragon stats. I'm not a total asshole DM. Google Translate (may it never be shut off) helped me with an amazing name: AURUMIGNIS MORTIFERUM
