Life is short and unfair. I don’t even know what to say. Hours after the last picture I posted of Alice and the kids we came home from the movie to find her nearly dead in her kennel. She stayed at the vet for 36 hours, and after making some improvement on the first day, started to fade last night. I was with her when they put her to sleep this morning. We buried her collar and her stuffed elephant under our deck where she liked to crawl just out of reach. Alice had four owners in her short life. She survived being hit by a car and moving from Alabama to Minnesota. Then being moved around in foster care before she got to us. I hope she knew she was with for the long haul. She was a good pup. This is the last picture I took of her. We were visiting her yesterday at the vet, anticipating bringing her home today.

Finished listening to Dune , or A Messiah and His Mom . It was always a hole in my sci-fi knowledge. World building is some of the best I've read. The characters being aware they are controlling people with religion when they know it's all made up or been planned is fantastic. Paul is interesting as far as "great white hopes" go. He becomes a hero and saves...hmm...himself? He gets revenge? If he'd died things would have been bad on Arrakis, but now the Fremen's religion spreads across the universe killing billions. Happy ending? Jessica was my favorite character, the most sympathetic by far. I liked her weird little daughter, but the idea isn't fleshed out that much. Maybe in the sequels? Gurney was great. The most D&D of all the characters.

Family is gone for a week. I think Alice is waiting for them to come back.

Coop got a bunch of these kind of cheapo toys called Havex Machines for his birthday. They are pretty rad in an 80's kind of way. Little micro machines sized cars that drive into a folded up "pod" and then pop open. They have stats on the box and an ill-defined mission to fight an invasion. Of what they never say. And since they're on clearance at Target, it will have to stay a mystery.

Alice doesn't know she lives in a kleptocracy. She just sees a chipmunk.
