After watching Dark Skies last night, I remembered that when I was a kid we used to make books every year in grade school. My 4th or 5th grade book was about aliens. Then I remembered that all those books are right on my bookshelf. So here's a story from 10 year old Casey, no different than 40 year old Casey.

Watching Dark Skies . Suitably creepy but standard abduction thriller. This one crosses over with haunted house stories. The creepiest part is of course the inevitable discovery of the kid's drawing of the aliens. Which made me think about how the outsider art made by abductees is actually the most disturbing part of the phenomena.

1001 Pagodas of Doom Continuing from this afternoon when my tablet ran out of juice. Loplop punched some skeletons into powder, then found a weird room with duck-people and a gong. The duck-people talked Loplop into ringing the gong three times and now he's teleported who knows where. Ducks are assholes.  That's it for tonight!

The Eagle was a weird movie. Here we see Mogua and his Huron warriors the Seal Prince and his Seal People warriors. They...were not really bad guys. The point seems to be about how personal, familial, and national honor are really important, but the movie actually portrays all of these things as leading to stupid and pointless death.  Also, I'm pretty sure Picts don't work that way. But the attack on the fort at the beginning was quite good.

Caterpuppy - AC 9, HD 1, #AT nil, D nil Special Abilities: anyone meeting the gaze of a caterpuppy must make a save vs. spells or be charmed by the creature permanently as per a charm person spell. The caterpuppy doesn't really take much advantage of this except to encourage scratches behind its ears and feeding it mashed potatoes.

My wife and I watched iZombie last night. Veronica Mars with zombies is accurate. But that's fine because I loved Veronica Mars. Characters were all good. The only complaint I have is that "visions" are kind of a lazy storytelling device. They can be doled out any time to move the story along.

Gaming stuff I'm working on Seems like I'm skipping around on projects lately. That's okay. Riders of the Purple Lotus has  character creation mostly written. Playtests with my regular group start next month. Guys, if you're reading this, the community will be set up this week. Unholy Land 2 is not going to be finished in time for Easter, so it's shelved until late fall or whenever I feel like it. Stay Frosty 4e/5e based XCOM game to go with my new Reaper Bones minis, enough stuff for a playtest, didn't get the time this weekend to do that. Heroes & Homework kid superheroes based on FASERIP/4C. Abby has some of her friends wanting to play. So after next sleepover I might have a play report. Since I'm me, I stripped the text from the 4C pdf and am reformatting it and adding my d20 based tables for myself. If I finish it, I'll post the document.
