War Train Zaamurets

War Train Zaamurets Should be a movie. Originally shared by giacomo bencistà ZAAMURETS «The war train Zaamurets was the behemoth of the 1910s and 1920s. Heavily armored. Bristling with guns. Everywhere it went, Zaamurets was the biggest, baddest thing around. Not many foes could touch it. If you possessed this train, you ruled the rails of early 20th-century Eurasia. Even more stunning, this awesome, self-propelled war machine went on a journey across the world. The years-long voyage carried the train through Ukraine, Russia and China — illustrating the chaos and uncertainty of the era. The leviathan served in Tsarist, Bolshevik, Czech, White Russian and several Chinese armies…» https://warisboring.com/a-remarkable-armored-train-fought-its-way-across-eurasia/

Finished the Cole & Hitch series by Robert Parker this morning.

Finished the Cole & Hitch series by Robert Parker this morning. I like books about tough guys doing tough guy stuff while musing on morality and human nature, so these were right in my wheelhouse. But besides that Parker is great with names. The various gunfighters in the books are: Cole & Hitch Cato & Rose Pony Flores Chauncey Teagarden

I watched the first episode of Westworld.

I watched the first episode of Westworld. Overall, I think I like Ed Harris better in Appaloosa. Costume didn't change much though. Also, Appaloosa has Vigo with killer facial hair.

Dracula's America

Image
Dracula's America Skinwalkers won handily. The Crossroads Magister failed two summoning tests or it might have been different. As it was, the werewolves downed El Diablo, the harbinger, then next round were able to charge the Magister and kill him in one shot. Dasodaha the Apache veteran then sniped Zeke the mountain man. Tuco tried to backshoot Taklishim, the Apache leader, but Taklishim saved all the damage. I like this game a lot. You usually roll one or three dice, 5's or higher are successes. Modifiers add or subtract dice, not result totals. Novices have d6, veterans d8, and heros d10.

I just looked through my pictures to find this. Mrs. G’s grandma just passed away. She made the exact same type of donuts my grandma made when I was a kid. But my grandma died when I was a teenager. Luckily, when I married into my wife’s family and I told her grandma how much I loved these donuts, she would set aside a bag just for me with my name written on it. I’ll miss you, Jean.

First Order Officer for Stay Frosty

Image
First Order Officer for Stay Frosty First Order officers do not have MOS specialties, and are not promoted from the ranks of Stormtroopers. If Lieutenant is rolled, retain the lieutenant’s ability to grant advantage , but lose any MOS benefits and equipment. Instead they have: Once per combat when the lieutenant takes damage, they may instead have a nearby Stormtrooper take that damage. Not issued armor or a helmet, instead issued a snappy fascist uniform and a blaster pistol.

What?!?!?!

What?!?!?! Originally shared by Jason Cordova Here is a link to the newest episode of Fear of a Black Dragon! In this one, Tom McGrenery and I are exploring the gelid catacombs of the OSR classic, Death Frost Doom . It's one of my very favorite adventures, and I can't wait to share why I love it so much with you. This episode was really fun to plan and record, and I think you'll agree Tom and I are really hitting our stride with this new show. The Expert Delve portion is particularly fun because we get to hear Tom talk about his experience running Death Force Doom, a re-skin using Imperial stormtroopers and the Stay Frosty rule set. Also: thanks to Paul Edson for the sharp edit! Enjoy! Cc: James Raggi Casey G. http://www.gauntlet-rpg.com/fear-of-a-black-dragon/death-frost-doom

Jay Exonauts is a smart guy.

Image
Jay Exonauts is a smart guy. Originally shared by Jay Exonauts Day 21 of #RPGaDay asks: Which RPG does the most with the least words? A: To my mind, nothing is as straightforward and yet still evocative as Casey Garske's Stay Frosty. He (purposely) skips a lot of the usual stuff (e.g. What is an RPG? Here's how you use dice...) and wastes no time getting to the GOOD stuff, like FUBAR and SNAFU tables for your space marines. It takes a bare-bones set of rules, makes a few tweaks, and sprinkles in a robust amount of imagination, using a superb economy of words. Stay Frosty exemplifies exactly what the OSR is all about: Hack the rules & imagine the hell out of it! Now, if I could only get the chance to PLAY it! #hinthint Casey G. Honorable Mention: c.r. brandon's awesome Far Trek is an amazing little RPG. Really an excellent translation of the original and animated series into a streamlined-yet-rollicking Federation experience. #RPGaDay2017

Evolution liked this skull so much it gave it to the T-Rex 120 million years or so later. Originally shared by American Museum of Natural History Some of the Triassic period’s (251 - 199 million years ago) most formidable threats were not dinosaurs, but animals more closely related to crocodiles. In 2010, paleontologists discovered a nearly complete skeleton of Prestosuchus chiniquensis in Brazil, which offered additional insight into the lives of these apex predators. Paleontologists found the fossil in a sedimentary rock formation that was a lake millions of years ago. At around 20 feet long and 900 pounds, Prestosuchus had a deep skull, serrated teeth, and a long tail. Paleontologists think that the animal may have been preying on herbivores who’d come to the water to drink. Want to assemble a life-sized cast skeleton of Prestosuchus? The Confederate icon — a scarred Virginia battle flag — was captured by the First Minnesota Pvt.

The Confederate icon — a scarred Virginia battle flag — was captured by the First Minnesota Pvt. Marshall Sherman at the bloody and brutal Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Many of the First Minnesota Regiment, a volunteer force, died in the Union battle against the South, and Sherman was awarded the Medal of Honor for his role. Virginia has asked for return of the flag for more than 100 years — and each time Minnesota has refused to return the hard-won symbol of victory. In 2000, when Virginia legislators requested the Southern Cross flag once again, Gov. Jesse Ventura said: “Why? We won. … We took it. That makes it our heritage.” http://www.twincities.com/2017/08/20/minnesota-has-a-confederate-symbol-and-it-is-going-to-keep-it/

Gen Con loot

Image
Gen Con loot First, I'd like to thank late 18th century British soldiers for bringing the word "loot" to the English language. This is definitely the least amount of stuff I've bought for myself at Gen Con, and also stuff you're probably not seeing anywhere else. Dracula's America Weird Western Gothic skirmish game. Seems pretty simple, I have a ton of old West minis, so a play report will be forthcoming. Impact City Roller Derby Flat-track roller derby board game. The board looks great and the meeples are adorable. I got the metal minis as well. We'll see if I ever get around to painting them. Phobos Rising Solitaire mini hex and chit wargame. This Decision Games had a ton of games like this. If I like it I'll be picking up more. Play report will come soon.

Gen Con Post

Gen Con Post This is me. Say hi. Even in four days there’s no time to see everyone you want to see or play everything you want to play. But I’m going to try to hit the DCC Punjar game at least one night, and I’ll be in the Contessa area Thursday night, so look for me there maybe? I’ll also have a few copies of Stay Frosty for $5.00 or to trade for zines or other cool stuff. Originally shared by Casey G. One last pre-Gen Con post. If you see me, say hi. I'll give you a Vote Lizard People button.

What’s a “dead game?

Image
What’s a “dead game?” A game no one makes supplements for? One that is out of print? One that uses old mechanics? One no one plays? I’d say there’s almost no such thing as a dead game. If someone plays it, it’s not dead. This tendency to need a game to be “supported” or constantly churn out content is really weird. If there’s no new content or the mechanics of a "dead" game are wonky, just use your…

Tide of Iron part 2

Image
Tide of Iron part 2 Played the infantry example scenario as well. Americans took their objective just in time, winning the battle, but one squad of Germans remained stubbornly holding onto part of a building. The key was taking a German control point by lighting it up with mortar fire, then assaulting the remaining machine gun. This let the Americans keep the initiative and put the Germans on the defensive.

Tide of Iron

Image
Tide of Iron Continuing my solo wargaming, tried the beginner scenario again. Ended in a draw. The Americans couldn't knock out the last Tiger before round 4 ended. Picture is end of turn 2.
