Strangely, I never really thought about Storm Troopers when I was writing Stay Frosty. But Tom McGrenery's Stormtroopers+Death Frost Doom got me thinking about two scenarios: Escape from Endor: Troopers cut off from the Shield Generator have to fight their way through rebel commandos hunting them, hordes of stealthy cannibalistic ewoks, and the monsters in the ewok TV movies to reach a shuttle at a remote outpost. Kylo’s Cannon Fodder: First Order Stormtroopers with poor evaluations are sent out with Kylo Ren while he hunts ancient Sith artifacts. Ren never goes into these Sith outposts first. He waits for the troopers to set off every trap before going in himself.

Jurassic Park Lied! Headlines all over today talking about how slow T-Rex was. “T-Rex couldn’t run!” etc. Holy raptor Jesus on a pogo stick. Look at an elephant. An elephant always has two feet on the ground when it’s “running.” It’s actually speed-walking. It’s too big and heavy to run like a horse or something. All big dinosaurs would have been the same. A T-Rex was plenty fast to catch it’s prey. Triceratops wasn’t out there galloping like a horse. And Jurassic Park didn't lie. The T-Rex chase is fairly realistic. The T-Rex always has one foot on the ground. It’s legs are not swinging at some ridiculous speed. The Jeep goes from stopped to first gear, then gets knocked out of gear, slowing down, the T-Rex catches up, then when it’s back in gear it easily outpaces the Rex. Speaking of shitty little drawings I did on my phone. Wednesday night I had another micro-nightmare as soon as I went to sleep. I dreamt I rolled over in my sleep, opened my eyes, and saw this thing sitting across from me. Sort of a malevolent Sloth from the Goonies, but the size of a normal person and wearing street clothes, and I was sure he was an alien creation. I jerked awake immediately after seeing it. I’d been asleep 20 minutes.

Players said, "We're going to explore that lost dwarf city we heard about for no reason except there might be treasure." So I needed a whole city. I'm using this Dyson map, but ain't nobody got time to key that much stuff. So I made a couple encounter tables and I'm going to use the Scarlet Heroes random dungeon tables to do room descriptions on the fly. It might be terrible.

Interesting tidbit from this amusing article: Medieval con artists sold guides to buried treasure. D&D worlds would have lots of people doing the same. After all, adventurers are flush with cash and always looking for the next score. As part of my research into the background of medieval Egyptian hermetic magic, I learned that there was apparently a large market in the late Middle Ages for pseudo-magical and pseudo-hermetic guides to using magic spells and finding buried treasure. These might fall into the category of what we would call “genuine fakes,” meaning that the texts are authentically medieval but that they were hoaxes and frauds in their day. Even though such texts are not “true” in any meaningful sense of the word, they do preserve within them cultural details that speak to the knowledge and interests of the people of medieval Egypt and what they wanted to know about their own country’s past. One of my XCOM soldiers ended up looking just like One Night from the Abyss, so I had to find a mod for a cowboy hat. I only found a "gunslinger hat" but close enough. Dark Ages Alignments Oathkeeper Neutral Oathbreaker Trying to think how this might work mechanically, or if it has to at all. One’s alignment might not actually align with their actions. Maybe you just need to keep track of Oaths sworn and whether they were kept or broken. XP bonus for oaths kept? Reaction penalty for oaths broken? A broken oath’s result would be it’s own reward. Like a victory in battle or personal power. Keeping an oath might mean a suicide mission.
