So the rabbi at the wedding we're at told a story during the service. She said there once was a king who had a gigantic flawless ruby. He built a vault to hold it. Rooms within rooms within rooms, and at the center a vault only be had the combination to. I lost track of the point of the story at that point wondering what traps and monsters the king set up to guard his vault, so I'm not sure exactly what the point was, but maybe it was "marriage is a dungeon?"

Feels like a weird dinosaur kind of day. Amargasaurus is a small, early Cretaceous sauropod from South America. The cool thing about Amargasaurus is the double row of spines that run down its neck. You might see illustrations of these shown as sails, but apparently it’s more likely they were bare, horn covered spines. Either way, this is an awesome looking dinosaur. Gaming stuff Although I’ve got a healthy appreciation for the random encounter table, I think for Riders of the Purple Lotus I’ll want something a bit different. When you roll an encounter with a herd of some kind usually not aggressive animal, that’s kind of boring. What you need is complications. So, another table maybe, with things like environmental hazards, predators, and geographical features. This past weekend’s ACKS session marked the two-year anniversary of our Against the Giants campaign. I feel pretty good about that.  Two years adventuring in and around Geoff and the party finally felt tough enough to take on the Steading. They did this by luring some giants out through trickery to be destroyed by their mercenary army. Then when the rest of the giants came out to destroy them, the party told the army to retreat while they would sneak into the unoccupied steading to ransack it. So they're inside, looting as fast as they can while their army is on the run. They don't know the outcome of that, but I do.

Holy Pelor! Two years into my Against the Giants ACKS campaign, the PCs are finally feeling tough enough to tackle G1. There are nine PCs plus four henchmen, and an army of over 100 mercenary cavalry. I’m going to need to be prepared for both dungeon crawling the Steading and the party successfully luring the giants out onto the battlefield. Luckily I can do this with Domains at War , the ACKS mass combat rules. Whatever happens is going to be awesome.

I have released a luck blade with two wishes into my ACKS campaign. The player asked if I was going to be a dick about the wishes since it's a luck blade and not a tricky genie. I told him if he really wanted to play safe to order a turkey sandwich. "I'll make a wish that can't backfire. Okay, I’ll do this Throwback Thursday thing. Here’s my sister and I at a silhouette shoot around 1986 or so. I’m shooting in the rimfire (.22 caliber) class, and my sister is spotting for me. Looks like I’m at the turkey station. Most of you have probably never heard of silhouette shooting. Our range was set up for pistol shooting, with two sizes of targets, one for .22 and one for large caliber. The way it works is sets of 10 metal silhouettes of four animals are placed at various ranges. For large caliber pistols this was chickens at 25 yards, pigs at 50, turkeys at 75, and rams at 100. So your score was however many targets you could knock down out of 40. For the .22 targets I’m shooting here, the distances were much less and the targets much smaller. People usually shot in a variation of the weird position I’m in here. Looks like the shirtless guy on the end must be left handed. There was a separate class for standing shooting.
