Tonight was the premier of one of Coop's monsters in my Perdition game. You may recall he thought my monster making skills were weak. https://photos.app.goo.gl/MbstdILutRDDPu942 So the little girl showed her teddy to Sheriff Lobo, but Lobo made his save vs. "Will you be my friend?" otherwise he would've been paralyzed and had his face eaten.

One last Tabletop Simulator picture.

Image
One last Tabletop Simulator picture. I got a couple rounds into a game, here's an action shot. Blue E1 used a command point to get a missile lock on Red B1 and both B1 and B2 fired back. Blue had a really good roll, but did not double or triple Red's roll of 13, so B1's shield is down, but no damage. Blue took two hits, one knocked down its shield, then damaged its engines, lowering its movement.

Tabletop Simulator learning curve

Image
Tabletop Simulator learning curve Can't use a grid with a board, just the table itself. Custom table has set dimensions, so I had to cut my starfield down and turn off the hexes and use the in-game grid. My little Star Wars ship tokens were cool, but had no identifiers. You can add info to each token, but you have to hover over to see. Didn't want to do that. Also decided I have old eyes, and made some high contrast tokens with game-icons.net . Also made the condition tokens stackable, like poker chips, so they don't fly all over (as much).

Family went to Coco last night. Pretty great, teared up once, par for the Pixar course. But that Frozen “short” before the movie started was fucking terrible . After a few minutes Abby and I were just discussing if we were sorcerous monarchs whether we’d use our powers for good or rule with an icy fist. Turns out we should not be trusted with power.

I've had Tabletop Simulator installed for 20 minutes and I've got enough components to play a game.

Moved from Aubrey & Maturin audiobooks to the Culture series. I’ve read Consider Phlebas , but now I’m listening to it. The narrator sounds kind of like David Tennant. The crew of the Clear Air Turbulence are such an adventuring party. I can practically hear the GM rolling the dice and the players' howls of indignation.

Snubfighter

Image
Snubfighter Had to try out the new map, so I playtested a new mechanic. To add a little uncertainty and versatility, I've added Command Points. Each side gets 3, maybe variable with more testing. A command point lets you raise your attack or defense, add movement at an opportune time, increase the range of a weapon, or get a missile lock. Two points increases your die for initiative. Used most command points for moving out of the firing line (prompting the other side to spend points to react) and initiative. I did use a few to increase firing range (better in the opening rounds than later) and to increase an attack roll.

By This Axe

Image
By This Axe What carnage! Played without the order cards to make it simpler for Coop, but he got bored fast anyway and I finished the game. The Black Falcon was losing until the She-Wolf got a lucky hit. Sensing advantage, the Falcon challenged the King, and got another lucky hit after several rounds of combat. High armor heroes are really hard nuts to crack.

Onto The Reverse of the Medal.

Image
Onto The Reverse of the Medal . This is one of the most interesting Aubrey/Maturin books because of how much of it takes place on land and you get a lot of details about London and English law. Also thieftakers, Bow Street Runners, spies, and cricket. This is one of my favorite passages. Stephen has become rich by inheritance, and his spymaster asks him if wealth has changed him.

“Once Commander In Chief hits the market, it’s gonna blow up just like Terra Mystica did, but right now funding is the biggest issue,” said Obama, sitting at his dining room table and showing off a prototype that included a 4-by-4 foot game board, stacks of handwritten index cards labeled “event” and “item,” and a set of polyhedral dice. “I drained our bank account to pay this specialty manufacturer to make the game components, and I’m hoping the Kickstarter money will cover the cost of renting warehouse space to store the finished product.” Originally shared by The Onion "Once people see how fun it is to craft and deliver their very own 90-minute State of the Union address covering every major issue in politics, they’re going to want to buy this." https://trib.al/dsLLJYJ

Gaming goal for this weekend is to try out a couple of lighter miniatures rulesets. Top of the list is Chris Kutalik's By This Axe . I made these two army lists for my Lego castle dudes. Chris, is it legit for a unit to have a leader who is just always embedded in the unit without being a character? Basically there to hold up morale? Or are leaders supposed to be characters?

Navies never change, Richard G.

Navies never change, Richard G. The “Fat Leonard” corruption investigation has expanded to include more than 60 admirals and hundreds of other U.S. Navy officers under scrutiny for their contacts with a defense contractor in Asia who systematically bribed sailors with sex, liquor and other temptations, according to the Navy. Most of the admirals are suspected of attending extravagant feasts at Asia’s best restaurants paid for by Leonard Glenn Francis, a Singapore-based maritime tycoon who made an illicit fortune supplying Navy vessels in ports from Vladivostok, Russia to Brisbane, Australia. Francis also was renowned for hosting alcohol-soaked, after-dinner parties, which often featured imported prostitutes and sometimes lasted for days, according to federal court records. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/fat-leonard-scandal-expands-to-ensnare-more-than-60-admirals/2017/11/05/f6a12678-be5d-11e7-97d9-bdab5a0ab381_story.html?tid=pm_pop&utm_term=.f7fc087d61da
