I just got an email from the Satanic Temple saying they were going to sue Arkansas for this monument, but less than a day after it was installed a dude rammed it with a Dodge Dart, destroying it. Still reading Sharpe books, noticing how many horses get killed. The riflemen target them. Sharpe stabs a horse instead of it’s rider. Sharpe sends a sniper to start shooting corralled horses because he's besieged by dragoons…etc, etc. I can’t find an article specifically about horse casualties in the Napoleonic wars, but the Civil War was fought in the same way, muskets in line and column, artillery, cavalry, etc. So here’s an article about Civil War horse casualties, one million horses killed! http://civilwarcavalry.com/?p=3521

I think I saw something similar from someone else. Expands that warspear rule for 5e I posted the other day to all weapons. Use in low-magic setting where magic weapons are very rare. A natural 1 is a hit, but: Weapon type: Piercing: DC 12 STR save or weapon stuck in foe Slashing: DC 12 DEX save or weapon breaks Bludgeoning: DC 12 CON save or off balance, foes have advantage to hit you until your next turn. Magic weapons immune to these effects. If you don’t like the idea of a 1 being a hit, make it the roll being exactly what was needed to hit. But that’s not as easy to keep track of as a 1. Also, a 1 hitting gives an inherent bonus to hit, mitigating not having much access to magic weapons.

Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles keep me running to Wikipedia. I know the term “dark ages” is out of fashion, but it really seems to apply in Britain from the time the Romans leave until about 300 years later. Arthur is said to have defeated the Saxons at Mount Badon. Was the saxon leader Aelle? Cerdic? Neither or both? Was Arthur real? Was the battle? In D&D terms, this time and place is ripe for attainment of name-level, the building of strongholds, and attraction of followers and men-at-arms. The third book Excalibur has a great description of the main character traveling into the Saxon lands of the east and being amazed that the towns are prosperous and trade is active.
