Watched VHS Viral.

Image
Watched VHS Viral . The framing story is crap. Really terrible. I did not get that people on the street were watching the short films on their phones. It made no sense. The magician short was meh. Some of the scenes seemed to be filmed traditionally, not "found footage" style. The middle story that the image is from is by far the strongest part of the movie. You could just watch this one and be done. A scientist opens a door to a mirror dimension and meets himself. Hijinks ensue. I really liked this one. The last one with skater punks vs cultists was ok at best. I'm willing to believe that's how shitty Socal skater punks act, but I just wanted them to be eaten.

Some Don't Sleep

Image
Some Don't Sleep You remember the light in the sky. It took you. The things came. They tested and probed you. You think. Maybe they did it for fun. You saw them send your boyfriend back. They shined a light in his eyes, he fell asleep, and he disappeared in a flash. They shined the light at you, but you didn't sleep. The things appeared to discuss you. One looked at you, an almost pitying voice said in your head some don't sleep. Some don't forget. They took you far, far into their ship. Are you on a ship? The tests they did on you...changed you. You can feel a power inside you. What did they do? There are others here. Some are wearing clothes out of style for decades. Some look like hybrids of them and humans. They know things you don't. They say there are weapons nearby. Tools. They know where. A blast of energy leaps from your hand and the door explodes. You're getting out. Going home.  ---------------- 1st level dungeoncrawl through a gigantic spaceship. C

I watch alien abduction movies so you don't have to! Except you should watch Extraterrestrial if you like that sort of thing. Pretty fun "cabin in the woods" horror. Good aliens. Good effects all around. Final girl was great. Scene on the ship was not quite up to Fire in the Sky level, but that's pretty much impossible to beat.  I give it four out of five probes. https://youtu.be/CXDhXQrLtMU

L.O.Fucking.L.

L.O.Fucking.L. Hard physical exertion should be a lonely journey to the dark places of your own soul. Not a freaking mixer. That’s crazy, man. Save the mixer for the mocktails. “Fitness” is a byproduct of you seeking out pain like a particularly masochistic fish might seek out fish hooks. “Fitness community” is an oxymoron. 1) There should be no COMM-unication in working out, because be quiet, and 2) the only UNITY you should be having is your spiritual communion with the God of Being Tired (Barnaby, a mythical fat bulldog slumped on a golden floor for all eternity). http://gawker.com/your-fitness-community-sickens-me-1721750094?utm_campaign=socialflow_gawker_facebook&utm_source=gawker_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

Also watched Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.

Also watched Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead . Entertaining, but not sure if it wants to be dramatic horror, or comedic horror. Better at just being comedic. And despite having a truck that runs on zombie breath, there are no real car chases. Some nice zombie twists though, with telepathic control of zombies, an explanation why they might be fast or slow, and of course, their use as a fuel source.

we know that birds of many groups have the evolutionary potential to become big, flightless forms of this sort, so, for as long are birds are around, it’s almost as if the world could once again become the domain of dinosaurs of a sort mostly associated with the Mesozoic. The exit from the dungeons of the Temple of Elemental Evil is finally revealed! The Fighter (me) uses his stonewalk potion to walk through the walls and escape with a single hit point left. How I Solo Game

Image
How I Solo Game I’m just going to gush about a couple of gaming products here. I’ve posted about them before, but I’ll go into a little more detail.  Scarlet Heroes This is the best OSR ruleset. Period. The end. I love all Kevin Crawford’s stuff, but Scarlet Heroes is special. Nominally for a single player and a DM or solo play, I’d use it for a gaming group by just changing the damage system back to the classic system. It normally uses a unique system to make it possible for a single character to play through a D&D adventure solo. The rules for skills (traits) and saving throws are more “modern” than most OSR rules, having more in common with 13th Age’s Backgrounds than old school proficiencies or thieves skill systems.  The rules really shine in the section for solo play. You could use these to spontaneously make an adventure on the fly for a group as well. Mostly I use these to supplement the second product(s) I’m going to gush about. Mad Monks of Kwantoom & Ruins of the Und

Don't need to roll up into a ball when you can just go "hull down." Originally shared by American Museum of Natural History Check out the armor on this Fossil Friday! This is Panochthus frenzelianus, a giant glyptodont that lived in South America, just before the extinction of the glyptodonts, at the end of the last ice age, about 30,000 years ago. Some glyptodonts grew to be over 10 feet long and may have weighed as much as a ton, including the shell. Their teeth were small and shaped like columns, with flat surfaces for grinding up plants.  The head of most glyptodonts was armored, and could also be retracted into the shell opening; the feet and tail were protected by armor as well. These shields deterred all but the most powerful carnivores from attacking this animal fortress.  Both armadillos and glyptodonts have a completely bony shell covering their bodies. The shells are constructed differently, however. While an armadillo is covered by parallel rows of bony bands,

Quick 5e Stat Blocks

Quick 5e Stat Blocks I like 5e quite a bit, but I think monsters are still too detailed. These are some of the stat blocks I used when I ran ASE using 5e: Moktar - AC 13, HP 15, Spd. 30ft, greatclub +5, 1d8+3 dm, 100 xp Aggressive - As a bonus action, a moktar can move its speed toward a hostile creature. Sick rock poisoning - most moktars in the cave have 4 levels of exhaustion. Spider - AC 13, HP 11, Spd. 40ft, stealth +7, bite +3, 1d6+1 dm+poison, 50 xp Poison - DC 11 Con save, 2d6 dm if fail, ½ if save. If target reduced to 0 HP, the target is stable but poisoned and paralyzed for 1 hour, even if it regains HP. Wolf - AC 13, HP 11, Spd. 40ft, bite +4, 2d4+2 dm+trip, 50 xp Trip - DC 11 Str save or be knocked prone. They’re missing the ability scores, any saving throw proficiencies, and skills. Thinking a single “bonus” entry might work. Bonus +5 that applies to any appropriate skill rolls or save. Or maybe Bonus +3/+5 one non-proficient and one proficient.
