Weird.

Image
Weird. An hour ago a guy knocked on our door saying he was an overnight courier, looking for someone that was not us but for our address. I said that wasn't us, and he said he'd take the package back. So if we end up robbed or dead overnight, it was a scruffy white guy, 5'9ish, 190-200lbs. Not these guys though. However, I am contemplating booby-traps.

Just got a fancy new laptop and I immediately thought of this.

Just figured out in Hex Kit if you select a general category of tiles like "mountains" instead of going into that category, it randomly chooses one each hex. You don't have to keep selecting a different one manually to get variety. Holy shit.

River Piracy, as in one river stealing another’s water.

River Piracy , as in one river stealing another’s water. If this was a China Mieville novel, the river would be doing it consciously, slowing murdering its rival for water to slake its insatiable thirst. Originally shared by NASA Earth Observatory River Piracy in the Yukon In the spring and summer of 2016, Daniel Shugar and colleagues witnessed an act of piracy in Canada’s Yukon Territory. The Kaskawulsh River hijacked the Slims River, stealing much of its supply of water and dramatically reshaping the region’s drainage. The ongoing retreat of the Kaskawulsh glacier in the St. Elias Mountains spurred this rarely seen process of “river piracy.” For years, meltwater from the Kaskawulsh glacier has fed two large lakes at the glacier front; those lakes feed the Slims and Kaskawulsh rivers. Previously, most of the water flowed northward via the Slims River and into a watershed that ultimately empties into the Bering Sea. A lesser amount flowed southward via the Kaskawulsh into a watershed t

Watched The Void last night.

Image
Watched The Void last night. It was good! No jump scares. Violence just happens. No one does anything superheroic and people mostly act like people might. Gameable as a location based adventure. Great visuals. Nice practical effects. Acting is good, but I’m not sure the sense of grief and loss they were going for hits as hard as they’d like, because mostly the characters are just trying to survive and don’t have much time for anything else.

Looks like it is on for DM’ing for my little cousins and niece and nephew (plus my kids) on an occasional basis.

Frostgrave + Legos

Image
Frostgrave + Legos There's a solo campaign in the Frostgrave Folio . The first scenario is on a 2'x2' board, so I thought "I can build that out of Legos and use my Heroica figures." Each 2x2 plate w/ center post counts as 1". The scenario takes place in an alchemal factory that has just had an explosion. This creates a mutant alchemal monstrosity that wanders the board. Bad initiative rolls mean a giant rat enters the board (I used bats) and the monstrosity gets to go first. Right away the monstrosity saw my warband because it's random move gave it line of sight. It's tough, but in a couple rounds I got lucky and killed it. It reduced my archer and infantryman to 1hp each though. But with it dead, they ran around and picked up treasure tokens, and Grishka the goblin elementalist ended up with 205 xp. It was really hard to get my phone in there to take pictures.

Random idea for high-lethality D&D campaigns: Character death unlocks new classes and races.

Random idea for high-lethality D&D campaigns: Character death unlocks new classes and races. Maybe useful in “special snowflake” campaigns where no one reads your carefully crafted setting material. Instead you roll it out piecemeal as PCs bite the dust. “I really want to play a saurian warlock…sure, I’ll take a drink of that mystery potion.” Someone probably thought of this before.

Coop won our first real Pokemon match, winning the Golden Valley Gym badge. Seaking had 40 damage, he healed him with a potion which activated Seaking's badass water horn power that does +80 damage the turn after healing. That almost killed Purugly in one hit. Next turn it was all over.

This was a nice start to the morning.

This was a nice start to the morning. OMG ... I bought this during the Deal of the Day because I thought with a cover like that the game couldn\'t be bad: it\'s not, it\'s *GARGANTUANLY GOOD* . I read it twice, laughed my axx off, called some friends, planned a match for yesterday evening. In a couple hours I created a random-based, point-crawl, \"dead space\"-like mission. Printed and some tables (even just for their names...), three carboard sheets, some tape and built a master screen with some Cpl Hicks pics on the front (...because you don\'t die off-screen, is that clear!?!?). Game night came: we created characters and played for three hours and my friends were blasted away by the sheer awesomeness (and some rockets). The game is smooth, pace is wonderful, balancing Tension to keep fighting at best but don\'t lose one\'s own mind makes it very real. One of the soldier rolled a SAW as his weapon and I think he\'s still giggling like a schoolgir

Snubfighter solo playtest pics. I wanted to test the shields and repair abilities, but added asteroids for fun. I also inadvertently ended up testing a bunch of edge cases that came up. Missiles in a turret? How does cover from asteroids work? What if someone doesn't want to go around the asteroid, can they fly through that hex? Called the game after four rounds because Mrs. G needed the table back. The Resistance got some lucky rolls and had three kills, but many damaged ships.

I was quite shocked when I opened up this pack of small toys for children and realized many of them have what appears to be male genitalia. Not sure if they were supposed to be codpieces or the real thing but about half the pack appears to me to be inappropriate for children. Many teachers get these types of toys for their students and this could lead to some serious problems at someone's job if they don't realize this before giving them out. I posted a picture so you can see and judge for yourself. Thank goodness I caught this before giving them to children! After separating them, 66 out of the 140 looked to me to be completely appropriate for children. The appropriate ones are very cute and I would probably buy them again because even if you throw out the inappropriate ones, the overall price is still pretty good. But I definitely recommend looking at them carefully before giving them out if you are using them in a work related situation. p.s.: The colors are different than p
